Sri Lanka

All the places we visited in Sri Lanka are pinned on the map! Feel free to save this map on your own Google Map too!

Galle

Fort Bazaar - We stayed at this gorgeous hotel in the middle of Galle.

coconut sambol - A hidden gem in Galle Fort. We went there two nights in a row! It’s an all-you-can eat buffet with many different types of homemade curry.

Mirissa

Secret Beach Mirissa - Mirissa is blessed with stunning beaches, but with just a short walk over the hill, through coconut and papaya trees, you reach this ‘secret’ little beach, complete with friendly dogs.

Tissamaharama

Yala National Park - 100% recommended doing the early morning safari. Dream come true for me seeing wild elephants, and even getting up close and personal with a big male!

Ariya Tissa - booked this homestay based on its reviews and was not disappointed! We were hosted by the nicest family. The father was a chef in Australia and cooked some amazing food to order. Their cheeky little son also kept us entertained for the evening!

Tissa Lake - we stayed in Tissamaharama as a gateway to Yala National park, but renting some bikes and taking them around this lake was an unexpected and incredible wildlife-spotting experience. We saw birds and fruit bats and were followed by monkeys swinging in the trees as we cycled along.

Tangalle

Silent Beach - A stunning beach that flows from the Amanwella resort. Super quiet and clean.

Amanwella - One of the most breathtaking places I've ever stayed.

Staff were very helpful and friendly! A very memorable stay here!

Mawalla Lagoon - we were given a boat tour on the lagoon as part of our stay at Amanwella, and it blew us away! As we took off across the lake thousands of huge fruit bats took to the sky.

Ella

Little Adam's Peak - If you’re staying in Ella, it’s worth doing the walk up through the tea plantations to Little Adam’s peak. Be warned: it’s very hot, but the lovely coconut seller at the top will help you cool down.

Ella Railway Station - the famous Pinterest rail journey! It’s a long one, but the views across the mountains and tea plantations are worth it. Hang out of the window or sit in the doorway to cool off with a nice breeze.

Kandy

Kandy Lake - A walk around Kandy lake is like its own mini safari. We saw giant water monitors, monkeys, and amazing birds! Be sure to check out the temple of the tooth relic too.

Sigiria

Pidurangala Rock - the sweaty climb through the jungle is worth it for these views! Get up before sunrise to escape the heat (if you can, unlike me)

Colombo

Colombo streets - Dodging tuk-tuks on the streets of Colombo

The Gallery Café - It has been created out of the former offices of the great Sinhalese architect Geoffrey Bawa
